Chinese robots are cleaning the world's hotels. literally.
Here's a number worth sitting with: according to IDC's Global Commercial Service Robot Tracking Report, China holds 38% of the global commercial service robot market in 2025. The next four markets combined, Western Europe, Japan, the US, and Asia-Pacific, make up most of the rest.
The sector had a strong year. Total market size hit $1.37 billion, up 35.7%. Commercial cleaning robots were the fastest growing segment: 58,000 units shipped, up 83.8%. Delivery robots, the ones rolling through hotel corridors and hospital wards, shipped 84,000 units, up 30.2%.
Part of what's driving adoption is straightforward: labor shortages. restaurants, hotels, and hospitals across every major market are struggling to hire for repetitive, low-margin roles. The business case for a cleaning robot gets easier every year.
China's 38% share reflects years of domestic scaling before going global, the same pattern seen in EVs and drones. Whether that lead holds as Western and Japanese manufacturers push back is a different question. IDC projects the market will reach 454,000 units by 2030, which leaves plenty of room for the competitive landscape to shift.
