Chinese AI startup StepFun has launched the STEPX Neo, an "agent phone" built around Step AOS and its built-in agent, Amoo.
The more telling detail is the presenter: Yin Qi, former Megvii co-founder. Megvii's facial-recognition tech won backing from Alibaba and Didi, but never became a reliable business and faded after three failed IPO attempts.
StepFun still has no SOTA-level model. It may be betting on AI distribution, but without a strong model underneath, will customers really care about the phone layer?
