The unusual part is control: Liang Wenfeng, DeepSeek’s founder, held almost 90% of the company before the financing and invested around $3 B as the biggest contributor.
DeepSeek’s bet is to keep pushing open-source models and AGI research, while also helping domestic chipmakers such as Huawei run powerful models despite U.S. chip limits.
