Snap just cut 16% of its workforce, about 1,000 jobs, as CEO Evan Spiegel says AI can replace more routine work and push the company faster toward profit.
The company expects $95M-$130M in layoff costs now, but says the move should lower its yearly cost base by more than $500M by the second half of 2026.
Snap is making this move from a mixed position, with daily users at 474M, revenue at $5.9B, and a narrower net loss of $460M, i.e. the business is growing but still not consistently profitable.
